MATRA SOMA
Maternal yoga therapy for pregnancy, postpartum &
early motherhood.
Supporting the mother within the mother-baby relationship.

A place for the mother, too.
Pregnancy, birth and early motherhood transform
far more that the physical body.
MATRA SOMA is an emerging maternal yoga therapy practice founded by Tara Whyte, bringing together yoga therapy, embodied regulation, matrescence and mother-infant relational health.
This work begins with a simple premise: The mother matters within the mother-baby relationship. Rather than treating maternal wellbeing and infant wellbeing as seperate concerns, MATRA SOMA explores how we can support the mother's body, nervous system and lived experience while nurturing connection within the developing mother-baby relationship.

How I Work

Regulation

Breath, movement, rest, sensory awareness and therapeutic practices supporting greater capacity and embodied regulation.

Embodiment

Supporting mothers to reconnect with the changing body through pregnancy, postpartum recovery and matrescence.

Dyadic Connection

Touch, infant massage, co-regulation and attachment-informed practices supporting the developing mother-baby relationship.

Witnessing

Creating space for the mother's experience of pregnancy, birth and motherhood to be heard-not only in the wellbeing of her baby.

Yoga Therapy & Maternal Health
Yoga therapy is the foundation of my developing clinical practice.
I am currently completeing my professional yoga therapy training with Yoga Therapy Greece and with my work increasingly specialising in pregnancy, postpartum and maternal wellbeing.
My current areas of interest and practice include:
- Perinatal nervous system regulation
- Postpartum anxiety & overwhelm
- Birth experience and embodied recovery
- Matrescence & maternal identity
- Pelvic & physical recovery
- Infant massage & nurturing touch
- Co-regulation & the mother-infant relationship
- Trauma-informed & aware, individualised yoga therapy
In August 2026, I was awarded a full scholarship from the Minded Institute to undertake it's 56-hour IAYT approved Yoga Therapy for Perinatal Mental Health & Physical Health CPD with Dr Claire Sandberg.

My relationship with this work begins long before MATRA SOMA
Yoga first entered my life during childhood and eventually developed into professional study in yoga and yoga therapy. Becoming a mother brought a new question into focus: what happens when we care for the baby, but lose sight of the woman becoming the mother?
My work now sits at the intersection of yoga therapy, nervous-system-informed practice, maternal wellbeing and the developing mother-infant relationship. Alongside individual yoga therapy, I have work with mothers through infant massage, mother-and-baby groups, community spaces and maternal storytelling, while independently exploring maternal wellbeing through a dyadic lens. MATRA SOMA is the practice emerging from that work.
